Upper House Agency accelerates the process of pivoting and scaling organizational culture and behaviour by getting in front of your organization’s challenges. They do this by asking tough questions to help your leaders and team to think differently about conflict resolution, racial equity, and inclusion through cultural and community humility so that your organization can devise pathways for long-term success.
Shuana's mission is to maximize organizations' potential and longevity within their industries by helping them create, evolve, and scale their workplace behaviour and culture through a racial equitable lens. As an activist, she played an instrumental role in organizing and leading the black civil rights protests in Calgary 2020. Additionally, she is a former board member of the Canadian Voices Against Racism and the Chair of the Calgary Police Anti-Racist Committee.

SESSION # 1 | Heirchary of Racism and Racial Bias

IFTU HARGAAYA
EDI EDUCATOR, BOW VALLEY COLLEGE
Iftu Hargaaya (she/her) is an educator, peer supporter, and community organizer with 10+ years of teaching and developing curricula in intercultural communication, anti-racism, mental health, and anti-oppressive education. Currently, Iftu works as an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Instructor at Bow Valley College. She is also a Peer Supporter at Peer Support Space. She provides one-on-one non-clinical support using abolitionist, trauma, and culturally responsive care approaches.
Before her current roles, Iftu was the Co-Founder and Education/Workshop Lead at The Colour Factor, a nonprofit organization focused on providing cultural healing events led by and for Indigenous, Black, and Racialized communities in Calgary.
Outside of work Iftu enjoys volunteering in community building initiatives such as The Oromo Community of Calgary, AB Oromo Professional Network, Sayyoo Innovation and the City of Calgary's Anti-Racism Action Committee.

I have worked in the inclusion, equity, and diversity (IE&D) space for three years; designing programs, governance structures of Employee Resource Groups, Inclusion Councils, and strategic roadmaps to influence transformational change.
My passion is for creating inclusive workspaces so people can be their true, authentic selves, do their best work and actualize their full potential. I am guided by my spirituality, circle of influence, life experiences, that inspire my unlearning and learning of new things and integrating a growth mindset to be the best version of myself, for myself and others.

SESSION # 1 | Heirchary of Racism and Racial Bias
This session will help attendees understand what racial bias is, how it affects our unconscious and conscious way of being and thought progress. We will identify how it has historically show up in our society from our childhood, while exploring how racism operates on a spectrum and heirchrachy based on colourism.

SESSION # 2 | Culture Humility and Sensitivity
This session will guide attendees in a thought-provoking conversation and lesson on how to navigate and authentically interact with diverse communities by understanding the crucial fundamentals of what builds culture identity and normalcy for people. This session will be particularly helpful in understanding disparities and the isolation that racialized immigrants may experience in western workplaces.
